They deliver decarbonisation projects up to £30million in value for sites such as Hospitals, Universities, Museums and many other complex buildings. In your role as Design Manager, you’ll own the delivery of complex energy decarbonisation projects from conception stage to completion. You’ll serve as the overall technical lead for a regional portfolio of projects, overseeing all engineering disciplines with a focus covering RIBA stages 2 to 6, from initial bid award through to project handover. This is a role for someone who thrives at the bridging engineering, strategy and client engagement, balancing risk, cost, programme and performance. Within your role you will:
Lead technical delivery across the full project lifecycle, from development through construction and commissioning
Act as the go-to technical expert for major clients, providing clarity, confidence, and leadership
Manage internal teams and external consultants to deliver buildable, compliant, and cost-effective designs
Oversee a diverse project portfolio from feasibility studies to £30m+ energy performance contracts
Resolve technical challenges, manage change, and support project managers throughout construction
Own technical risk, ensuring issues are identified, mitigated, and communicated
Identify opportunities to add client value and drive additional revenue
Design Manager – Requirements
Proven experience in M&E design and delivery of large-scale heating/energy systems (2–10MWt)
Hands-on knowledge of heat pumps, boilers, CHP, chillers, heat exchangers, and AHUs
Solid understanding of regulatory compliance for industrial energy projects
Experience delivering energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures from concept to delivery
