Heating Engineer (District Heating & Energy Centres) – Overview

Low Carbon Recruitment Ltd are working with one of the UK’s largest Energy Management companies in the UK with over 30 years experience maintaining domestic & commercial premises within London & surrounding areas. The company currently manage over 10,000 properties throughout the London & Home Counties as well as several key Energy Centres, Heat Networks and Commercial Plant Room Assets. Due to recently winning several new contracts, they are looking to grow their Engineering team and can also offer clear routes to Senior Engineer, Supervisor and Manager level in order to progress your career.

Day to day you will cover your local patch, travelling to sites to service and maintain systems within Energy Centres such as CHP, Boilers, Heat Pumps, Biomass, Pumps and other systems that you would find in a Commercial Plant Room environment. You will also work on HIU’s, communal/district heating systems and they can offer full training on renewable energy systems if you haven’t worked on them before. The company can offer further training and progression, assisting you in gaining experience on commercial heating systems, heat networks, Energy Centres and more however it is expected you would have a working understanding on these systems.

The call out rota is 1-in-8 however every other time you’re on call, you will be the ‘number 2’ Engineer. The number 2 Engineer simply holds the phone and if the number 1 Engineer has a job he cannot get to, he will ask the number 2 Engineer to attend. If you are not called out at the ‘number 2’, you will effectively be paid for the week just for holding the phone.

They also operate an 8 hours per day Door to Door Scheme. This means that if you have 1 hour travel to site and 1 hour travel home, you are only required to be on Site for 6 hours. This means your entire day is 8 hours INCLUDING travel rather than 8 hours on Site with travel on top. You have a much better work life balance due to this and allows you to earn overtime for anything over 8 hours per day should you wish too.
