I am working with the UK’s primary developer and operator of Clean Heat Networks who are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team. This is a remote based role with travel into their office once or twice per fortnight. The company work with a range of clients, mostly New Build Housing and Multi Occupancy Building developers for which they design, install and operate Heat Pump Networks. The company have been operating since 2012 and have quickly grown to a team of circa 50 people. As the team grows there will be opportunities for progression.
As Principal Design Engineer you will be responsible for leading, designing and developing mechanical systems for a range of renewable energy heat network projects. These will include 4th and 5th generation heat networks, energy centers and distribution through multi occupancy developments, including new-build housing developments, hotels, schools and commercial buildings. Your role will be split 50/50 between hands on design and managing a team of 4 x Design Engineers/Juniors. You would be second in command to the Principal Design Manager, alleviating some of the pressure on him so that he can focus on governance and other tasks as they delve further into Tier 1 projects.
Duties will include:
You will play a pivotal and collaborative role within the current design team contributing to new project design, enhancing existing designs and leading other engineers in design work across our project portfolio.
Reporting to the Principal Design Manager, assisting and coordinating design priorities with the client and project deliverables.
Optimised design for both ambient and traditional heat network designs to comply with CP1. Network design utilising Comsof.
Production of calculations, specifications and technical submittals.
Liaison with client design team, supporting design development through to construction issue drawings.
Assisting with production of Revit 3D models (by others), including review and approval.
Leading and supporting the design of our Ambient Networks (boreholes, lake collectors etc.) via GLD modelling
Ensuring compliance with CIBSE and HNTAS
The design team is growing quickly. They have a Junior Design Engineer starting and are recruiting for both a Design Engineer and this role as Senior. As the team expands, there will be opportunities for progression for you.
Principal Design Engineer – Requirements
A bachelor's degree in building services or a related field is preferred, but HNC will be considered alongside experience
Experience in Mechanical engineering, engineering consultancy and/or Mechanical installations
Experience in design packages e.g., AutoCAD, REVIT, COMSOF
Experience in Plantroom design and coordination
Knowledge of CP1 and Heat Networks
